Daylight Model
PRECEDENT STUDY: STEVEN HOLL
We chose to research Steven Holl’s explorations through light as precedent for our daylight
model. We found the most inspiring design within his D.E. Shaw & Company Office design. Incorporatd
into this space is light through both color and texture. From this, we arrived at our
concept for our daylight model: A phenomena of “spatial color reflection” upon textured surfaces.
We also dicovered a product design of Steven Holl, entitled “Riddled Cabinet” that showed
the effects of high contrast light and shadow. These three properties (the effects of light on texture,
light and color, and high contrast light and shadow), have been explored also through our
own light model.
